Chainsaw Maintenance

How do I keep my saw safe? The chainsaw, like any working machine with an explosive engine, requires mandatory periodic maintenance in order to function properly. Among the maintenance works, the most important is maintaining the proper chain alignment, which it is

SAFETY FIRST!

Perhaps it cannot be emphasized enough that a chainsaw is not a toy! In any case, carefully study the user manual supplied with your chainsaw! Follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly for chain alignment, oiling, and any other maintenance instructions. The following information does not replace the instructions for use provided by the manufacturer for your specific chainsaw!

cause serious, serious-life-threatening injuries if it is improperly placed on the chain guide or if the saw itself is used improperly. That is why always install, adjust and perform maintenance operations as recommended. Be aware that if you cut with the nose of the chain guide, a so-called kickback effect can occur, which is extremely dangerous! Due to the kickback, the operator of the chainsaw can easily lose control over the machine, thereby causing serious or even life-threatening injuries to those around the machine or even to the operator himself. Before using any chainsaw, carefully read the manufacturer's safety instructions and instructions for use.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF!

With a basic understanding of how chainsaws work and how to use them, we can significantly reduce the number of sources of danger, and if appropriate, we can also avoid, e.g. the backlash effect or other unexpected phenomenon. At the same time, by following the instructions, the service life of the chain saw and its parts will be significantly extended.

1. Before using any chainsaw, always read the manufacturer's instructions and safety instructions carefully.

2. Do not work with a chainsaw if you are tired, if you have consumed alcohol or are under the influence of any medication or drug, whether it is a prescription or over-the-counter product.

3. Use appropriate safety equipment, foot protection, close-fitting clothing, protective gloves, eye, ear and head protection.

4. When using the chainsaw, hold it firmly with both hands, with your fingers firmly around the handles of the saw. Hold the back handle of the saw with your right hand and the front handle with your left hand - even if you are left-handed. A firm grip helps maintain control even in unexpected and dangerous situations such as kickback. To ensure a secure grip, always keep the grips dry, clean, and oil-free to avoid accidental slippage.

5. Chainsaws are designed to operate at maximum RPM. For efficient and safe work, always operate the machine at full throttle.

6. Always stand slightly to the side of the plane of the chain and chain guide, greatly reducing the risk of injury should you lose control of the chainsaw.

7. Always carry the chainsaw with the engine stopped, with the chain guide and saw chain facing backwards and the exhaust facing away from the person carrying it. Always use the appropriate chain protection case during transport.

8. Never cut at or above shoulder height. It is very difficult to control the saw in this uncomfortable position.

9. Never use the chainsaw while climbing a tree or standing on a ladder, unless only a non-trained professional is using a saw specially designed for one-handed use and is equipped with the appropriate equipment.

10. There are cutting tasks that require special training. If in doubt, do not hesitate to consult a professional. Do not forget! Nothing can replace the right judgment.

11. To avoid the risk of kickback, make sure there are no obstructions in the area to be cut. Do not allow the nose of the chain guide to touch any stump, branch or any other obstruction while operating the saw. Never cut near chain link fences, barbed wire fences, or where there are hanging or broken electrical wires.

12. Do not begin felling until you have a clear work area, a safe base and a well-planned fall zone and adequate retreat area.

13. Pay attention to the case that the wood body closes above the chain guide and jams the saw. The compressive force exerted when the upper chain is just getting stuck can unexpectedly add to the pulling force when it is pulled out and easily pull the machine on itself.

14. Be especially careful when cutting small bushes or saplings, as the slender, flexible parts can easily get caught in the chain and whip the operator or throw her/his off balance.

15. When cutting stuck or straining branch ends or tree saplings, be very careful to ensure that the free ends do not cause any accidents.

16. Do not allow other persons to be near the chainsaw when starting it or while it is working. Remove all bystanders and any animals from the work area.

17. Keep all parts of your body away from the chainsaw when the engine is running.

18. Never work with a machine that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or not fully assembled. Make sure the chain stops when you release the throttle. If in doubt about the mechanical condition of the machine, contact the nearest service center or dealer.

19. Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and maintenance instructions in all cases. There are basically two steps to sharpening cutting chains. 1. Sharpening the cutting edges 2. adjusting the depth limiter eye. If in doubt, contact your nearest service center or dealer.

20. Only use a replacement chain guide and cutting chain for your machine that is recommended or equivalent by the manufacturer.

21. Always maintain proper chain tension. A loose chain can jump out of the chain guide and seriously injure the operator.

22. Handle chainsaw fuel with care. Move the saw at least 3 meters away from the fueling area before starting it. Do not smoke while filling the fuel tank and always use gasoline or gas-powered machines in a well-ventilated area.
